Not to be trusted with tankmates it can fit in its mouth, but is relatively peaceful otherwise. It can be maintained in small groups as it is not particularly territorial. Good tankmates include Synodontis species, larger characins and cichlids such as Severum, Angelfish, some Tilapia species etc. It shouldn’t be kept with very vigorous species, however, as it may be outcompeted at feeding time.

The Salifert Ammonia Test Kit is a straightforward, accurate testing kit for aquatic environments that measures the sum of toxic ammonia and ammonium. Immediate results within minutes. Can perform up to 50 accurate tests and can detect 0.5 ppm of total ammonia.
The Salifert Carbonate Hardness/Alkalinity Test Kit measures the carbonate and bicarbonate levels in your tank, both of which contribute heavily to the stabilization of an appropriate and healthy pH balance, a level of pH 8.1 - 8.4. In regards to fluctuation, there should be no more than a 5% change from the optimal 2.8 meq/L, with a maximum fluctuation of 0.14 meq/L.
The Salifert Carbonate Hardness/Alkalinity Test Kit is incredibly accurate and can detect even the most minor changes in alkalinity level, measuring incrementally by 0.1 meq/L. A sharp change in water colour will be present when fluctuations are detected. This test will not impact the sensitive balance of your pH system.
The Salifert Nitrate Test Kit measures the extremely hazardous nitrate levels that build up in spaces that have been deprived of oxygen. High nitrate levels can lead to undesirable algae growth and coral damage. The ideal nitrate concentration in a healthy reef system should be lower than 1 mg/L, but fish-based aquariums may show drastically higher concentrations.
Additionally, the unit is able to detect both small and large concentrations of nitrates. Unlike other nitrate testers, the Salifert Nitrate Test Kit is not impacted by the presence of amines. Contains ingredients that provide accurate and immediate readings.
