  • Seachem Ammonia Alert

    Seachem Laboratories Seachem Ammonia Alert

    Out of stock

Seachem Ammonia Alert is an innovative colour-changing device designed to continuously detect and monitor toxic free ammonia in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. The incredibly accurate sensor changes reversibly from yellow to green to blue, relative to the specific ammonia concentration inside of the tank. Ammonia is the #1 killer of aquarium inhabitants and the convenient device detects less than 0.05 mg/L (ppm) of free ammonia and alerts aquarium owners so that they can take the proper measures to lower the ammonia levels. When free ammonia is not present, the unit will take on a yellow or faint yellow-green colour and is normal for the dry sensor to have a greenish hue to it. There is no water sampling, chemicals or test procedures needed, but the dry sensor may take up to a few days to properly calibrate with the parameters of your aquarium water and will last over a year with accurate readings. In the aquarium, the presence of free ammonia is detectable continuously with a response time of approximately 15 minutes. Response to decreasing ammonia is significantly slower, requiring about 4 hours to go from TOXIC to SAFE on the removal of ammonia. The device is half the size of competitive units, ensuring minimal visual obstruction in the aquarium and lasts over 9 times as long. Properly caring for this unit is essential in maintaining accuracy and reliability over time. The unit can be effectively cleaned with a clean, soft material, yet avoid touching the sensor with fingers as skin oils can damage it. Drying out does not permanently damage the unit, but sensitivity will improve with age as long as the unit does not fully dry out. For the highest level of sensitivity, the device should be read under natural daylight or a daylight simulating light source. Please note that red enhancing light minimizes the intensity of green and blue hues, decreasing the apparent sensitivity of the unit. Some dye medications may discolour the sensor.

    1 review

Tannins, found in substances like Catappa leaves, offer several benefits in aquariums, making them a popular choice among hobbyists. They have plenty of advantages! Tannins help to prevent fungal and bacterial infections in fish and their eggs, reducing the risk of disease in the aquarium. By influencing water chemistry, tannins can slow down or even eliminate algae growth, keeping your aquarium cleaner and reducing maintenance. Tannins can also help manage populations of pest snails and crustaceans, which can otherwise become problematic in aquariums. Fish species that thrive in low pH and soft water conditions will benefit from tannins, often showing more vibrant colours and increased spawning behaviours, and enjoying the shade provided by the leaves. Fry, shrimp, and other small inhabitants find shelter among the leaves, enhancing their survival rates. Many ornamental shrimp species consume biofilm that grows on the decaying leaves, providing a natural food source.

This is an easy and effective way to check for CO2. Directions for Replacing the CO2 Indicator Solution Holding the funnel side of pH Checker upward, fill the small bulb with 20 drops of indicator solution. Slowly turn the funnel side down avoiding any spillage of the solution. Insert pH Checker into aquarium funnel side down, trapping air in the funnel. Attach the pH Checker in aquarium at the furthest point from any diffuser. The colour of the indicator solution will change yellow to green to blue according to the pH of the water. A yellow color indicates lower pH/more CO2. A blue color indicates higher pH/less CO2.

  • Seachem De*nitrate Seachem De*nitrate

    Seachem Laboratories Seachem De*nitrate

    Out of stock

Seachem De*Nitrate is a top-of-the-line filter media designed specifically to provide additional support to the biological filtration process. The media itself is an economical, natural, porous material sporting a pore distribution, shape and large surface area that encourages beneficial anaerobic nitrification within the first few millimetres of depth and anaerobic denitrification at the core. Additionally, the media helps to remove harmful nitrates, nitrites, ammonia and organics that can cause harm or even kill your aquatic inhabitants. Live rocks or reef rocks remove nitrate by anaerobic denitrification and Seachem De*Nitrate removes nitrate using the same process, except the efficiency of this process is magnified several folds by directing the water to filter through the porous filter media. Due to this process, excessive flow rates should be avoided, as they may impede the development of an adequate anaerobic environment to support denitrifying bacteria and as is the case with reef rock, anaerobic conditions are achieved by the porosity and the depletion of oxygen by the aerobic process at the surface. De*Nitrate is an exceptional media for aerobic nitrification as well, making it an ideal biological filter in drip trays, canister filters, sumps or even box filters. As mentioned earlier, it is important to note that at high flow rates (greater than 100 GPH), it will function solely as an aerobic filter and at slow flow rates (less than 50 GPH), it will function as both an aerobic filter and an anaerobic denitrifying filter. Suitable for use in both freshwater and saltwater environments.

  • Seachem DuoPad

    Seachem Laboratories Seachem DuoPad

    Out of stock

The Seachem DuoPad is a professional quality dual surface, non-scratch algae pad for glass and acrylic aquariums. One side is made with melamine foam, which utilizes micro abrasive technology to effortlessly remove algae from the sides of your aquarium. Melamine foam is an incredibly abrasive cleaner with a microstructure that is as hard as glass, but the open cell structure keeps it flexible, allowing the pad to efficiently remove caked on algae from minuscule surface scratches on the aquarium walls. The second side is textured and durable, making it perfect for scrubbing even the rougher grooves of rocks and driftwood clean. Chemically inert and made without the use of soaps or detergents, Seachem's DuoPad will not leave any negative impact on your aquarium. The white colour makes spotting leftover algae simple, allowing you to keep scrubbing until an area is fully clean.
