Seachem Matrix Bio-Media is a professional grade high porosity bio-media designed to provide efficient biofiltration specifically for the targeted removal of nitrogenous waste in both freshwater and marine aquariums. This high capacity biofiltration helps to control harmful compounds in your aquarium such as ammonia, nitrate and nitrite, effectively keeping these elements at safe levels as to not harm the aquatic inhabitants of your tank. The media is an inorganic solid approximately 10 mm in diameter and boasts an exceptionally large surface area, with each litre of Seachem Matrix Bio-Media providing as much surface area (<162 m) as 40 litres of plastic bio-balls! The difference in efficacy and space-saving ability will make your head spin! As well, many plastic bio-materials only provide an external surface area for bacteria cultivation, whereas this media offers a spacious internal macroporous surface area with macropores that are the optimal size to support beneficial nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria. Unlike other common forms of bio-media, this allows Seachem Matrix Bio-Media to easily remove nitrate along with ammonia and nitrite, simultaneously and in the same filter for a more efficient and effective process. The media is completely inert and will not break down, nor does it need to be replaced. It is also compatible with nearly every type of wet and wet-dry filter. Use 250 mL of Seachem Matrix for each 200 L (50 US gallons) of aquarium water. The media may be placed in any kind of filter and is noticeably effective when used in a canister filter. The media is sufficiently large enough that no filter bag should be required for most applications. It works quite well in a variety of drip tray systems but may find that the larger Seachem Pond Matrix is better suited for such applications

  • Seachem Matrix Carbon Seachem Matrix Carbon

    Seachem Laboratories Seachem Matrix Carbon

    Out of stock

Seachem MatrixCarbon is a professional grade activated carbon filter media, that has been designed with a spherical bead shape as a way to ensure optimal hydrodynamics, maximum water flow and provide optimal macroporous binding sites for beneficial bacteria to grow. These macropores also operate as mechanical filtration, removing larger organic molecules like nitrogenous waste. The media has a rather low ash content which can be seen in the minimal impact it has on pH levels, and even when mixed with distilled water, the pH levels will never rise above 7.0. Compared to other major brands, Seachem MatrixCarbon has the lowest detectable leachable phosphate content, performs twice as well with the total capacity to remove organic matter, and has the best rate of adsorption and longest duration of use. This high-quality, bituminous coal carbon media maintains optimal water clarity in both freshwater and saltwater aquariums. 250 mL will easily treat 400 L (100 US gallons) of aquarium water for several months. Place the media in a filter bag. Rinse before use. For best results, Seachem MatrixCarbon should be placed in such a way as to maximize the flow of clean water running through it. The product can be effectively used in a canister filter, chemical filtration module, box filter, or any high flow area of a trickle filter.
